Hot-Dipped Galvanised Household Tub

$28 to $64

Everyday domestic pricing basis: $28 for the 15-litre scullery basin (35cm diameter); $44 for the 40-litre household wash tub (50cm diameter); $64 for the 75-litre deep oval yard tub (70cm length).

Our galvanised tubs are formed from heavy 0.9mm sheet steel and fully submerged into molten zinc at 450°C after forming and riveting. This process coats every sheared edge, seam fold, and rivet hole with a thick metallurgical alloy that prevents water seepage and edge rust. Thin electro-plated buckets sold in gardening centers begin rusting along sheared seam lines within three months of moisture exposure.

The upper circumference features a rolled-steel wire bead that provides structural rigidity under heavy water loads. Drop-forged steel bail handles are secured with solid steel hand-peened rivets that will not pull through the side walls when carrying sixty pounds of wet washcloths or harvested autumn apples.

Supplying sixteen wash tubs for a community urban cider press in St. Johns

During the October apple harvest in North Portland, a volunteer community orchard required heavy-duty, leak-proof rinse basins capable of holding ice water, soaked fruit, and washed linen press cloths without buckling under frequent outdoor dragging across brick paving. Thin plastic buckets cracked under cold morning temperatures, and painted metal flaked toxic flecks into rinse water.

We set aside sixteen 40-litre hot-dipped tubs from our Aisle 3 stock. The thick zinc coating provided an impervious, non-leaching barrier resistant to mild fruit acids and icy wash water. The double-rolled rims gave the harvest workers secure handholds even with wet gloves. The coordinator inspected every unit at our Irving Street counter before loading them into their community transport.

Physical engineering data, zinc coating weights, and retention ratings

We believe household goods must be evaluated on material density and metalworking truth. Review the physical specifications below:

Base Steel Core 0.9mm heavy-gauge cold-rolled carbon steel sheet.
Galvanising Process Hot-dip batch galvanised post-fabrication in molten zinc bath (ASTM A123 standard).
Zinc Coating Weight Minimum 350 grams of zinc per square metre, displaying visible crystalline zinc spangles.
Rim Reinforcement Continuous 4.5mm solid carbon steel wire core encased inside double-rolled edge hem.
Handle Fastenings Two solid iron rivets per bracket, hydraulic-pressed and peened flush against inner tub wall.
Water Tightness 100% leak-tested before shipment. Zinc flows into internal seams forming solid metal joint.
Tare Weight 3.2 kg (15L model); 5.8 kg (40L model); 8.4 kg (75L oval model).

How to submit a counter hold and inspect metalwork in our showroom

We hold physical stock on display so customers can evaluate weight, balance, and seam work before making any decision:

  1. Identify your required volume: Measure your sink space or utility floor to choose between the 15L, 40L, or 75L models.
  2. Send hold inquiry: Use our website form or contact our sales consultant directly by phone at +1 (340) 885-9800.
  3. Floor hold confirmation: Our consultant tags the specific tub with a paper inventory card and holds it for 48 hours.
  4. Physical inspection: Visit our brick-and-mortar storefront at 1201 Northwest Irving Street in Portland. Lift the tub, test the bail handles, and confirm water-tight construction before taking it home.

Important chemical handling warnings and food contact guidelines

While hot-dipped zinc is an exceptional moisture barrier for utility washing and storage, it has distinct chemical boundaries:

  • Never cook or boil acidic liquids: Boiling tomatoes, vinegar pickles, or fermented wines directly in unlined galvanised zinc will dissolve small amounts of zinc salt into the liquid. Use our porcelain enamel basins for food boiling.
  • Safe for cold washing and cold rinsing: Perfect for washing raw root vegetables, rinsing garden produce, laundry soaking, holding cold beverage ice, and ash collection.
  • Maintenance advice: If storing firewood or damp compost, allow the tub to dry periodically. Wipe the interior dry after heavy soap laundry use to prevent chalky white zinc oxide buildup.
